As many of you have probably seen, our new Director of Development is here! Everyone say hello Emma!
As a Richmond transplant who has enjoyed being a part of the community for years, They are super stoked to be a part of this team. They have hit the ground running, meeting with our supporters and collaborators, and helping out with our AJC program in the afternoons. They are excited to keep growing and learning in this role and meeting all the kiddos.
When not at work Emma can be found running on one of the many trails along the James, sitting on the porch with their dog Otto, or hanging out on the VMFA lawn. To get to know more about Emma, we’ve had them answer some questions!
Q&A:
Favorite bike ride in Richmond: Riverside Drive loop.
Mountains or Road: Road (but I want to get more into mtb).
Current bike: Fuji classic track named Patty, she’s my baby.
Dream bike race or journey: Bikepacking around the Adirondacks mountains (where I grew up partially) or the Irish coast.
Favorite season for biking: Fall/Winter!!
Best thing about working with kids: Kiddos are incredibly insightful and strong; they can teach us so much about ourselves and the world. They always speak their minds and are ready to tell you exactly how they think or feel. I love being able to just hang out with them and talk about life, they always have me laughing so hard I can’t breathe or rethinking how I approach a problem.
Best fuel for long bike rides: I love a classic Cliff bar, specifically the kid ones in the iced oatmeal cookie flavor; or TJ rice crispy treats (which are dairy free!).
How did you get into biking: I biked a lot growing up, especially in the ADK mountains and also to get around my town in VA. I would bike all summer long to and from work at the local pool when I was in high school. Then when I got to Richmond I got more into biking around the city, especially exploring down by the river, to the point where I was out on my bike everyday multiple times a day.
Favorite bike race: I haven’t been into bike racing very long but I loved watching the TDF this year. I’m really into women’s sports, especially women’s soccer (go Spirit!), so I really want to follow women’s racing more this year!
That’s all we have for you; hope you enjoyed getting to know Emma!
